The total number of visitors to Cyprus from abroad for the purpose of sports tourism recorded an increase of 19% compared to 2010, generating approximately 20 million euros in revenues, according to a survey on sports tourism in Cyprus for the year 2011 presented Tuesday by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation during a press conference.Particularly, in 2011 the number of visitors stood at 12,879 compared to 10,784 in 2010 and 9,347 in 2009.
The survey covered the sports of football, Swimming & Water-Sports, Cycling and Track & Field Events, (marathon, road racing, triathlon). A total of 78 3, 4 and 5 star hotels, A’ class tourist apartments , Sports Organisations/Federations and Facilities, Travel Agencies and sports organisers took part in the survey.
