The Limassol carnival started officially as from last Thursday with a big party and a grand entrance of the Queen of Carnival 2013. This year , it is "The Queen of crisis… and bliss" that made an entrance to the Carnival parade, of the party town of Limassol. The partying lasted until late in the evening but there is more to come.Yesterday the children’s parade took place on the Limassol seafront road with thousands of people participating and watching. The party will go on during the whole week until next Sunday with the Big Parade taking place on Makarios Avenue expected to attract even more crowds.
An outline of the Limassol carnival programme and what is going on in Limassol this week:
Monday 11th March
The Serenaders will be touring and singing around various Limassol neighbourhoods.
7.30 p.m. In Kapsalos Area you will find the Limassol Serenaders and at 7.30 p.m. in Ayios Antonios Area, the Ariones Choir.
Tuesday 12th March
Serenaders will be singing in more Limassol neighbourhoods:
7.30 p.m. Ayia Phyla area will have the Giorgalletos Serenaders, Zakaki area, the Edon Serenaders and Apostolos Andreas and Ayios Ioannis areas, the Monterni Keri Choir .
8.30 p.m. The Tuesday’s Carnival Fiesta, a most anticipated evening of music and dancing, will be held all around the Limassol Medieval Castle Square
Wednesday 13th March
7.00 p.m. The Rialto Theatre will present an evening of serenades and carnival songs by the Chamber Choir and the Children Choir of Papadakion Municipal School of Music, the Epilogi Children Choir and Music Workshop, and the Armonia Choir.
Thursday 14th March
8.30 p.m. Medieval Castle Square and the Big Carnival Ball. Another evening of songs and dances. Performing this year popular carnival songs and rhythms, are the Dreams Choir and Elena Solea along with their orchestra. DJ to follow while there is a Free-style Carnival Costume Competition, with awards to be given to the best three costumes.
Friday 15th March
11.30 a.m. The Limassol Municipality invites you at Saint Andrew Street to sing and dance with the group of Cypriot Serenaders.
7.00 p.m. A Serenade’s evening. Meeting at Irinis Street, for a walk until the Medieval Castle square with the participation of: the Moderni Keri Choir, the Limassol serenaders, the Ariones serenaders, the Cypriot senenaders, the EDON serenaders and the Choir of P.O.O.A. Limassol.
Saturday 16th March
11.00 a.m. Starting from the Limassol Co Operative Savings Bank parking , the Municipality’s little train will be touring around the city with the Epilogi Workshop Choir on board, while at 11.30 children are to board for a second tour.
12.00 The Limassol Municipality with the Limassol center Shop owners Association, invite you to sing and dance in Anexartisias street with the Limassol Serenaders.
3.00 p.m. The Limassol Antique Cars Club will drive around the city in a carnival mood starting from the Enaerios Parking place and ending at the District Office Building.
6.30 p.m. The Serenaders’ Parade. Groups of Serenaders will be performing all around the Grigori Afxentiou Square outside the District Office Building, while free wine will be offered.
From 5.00 p.m. onwards the Georgia Protopapa’s Vocal Ensemble and the choir Mousikes Periplanisis will be singing as well at Grigori Afxentiou Square.
Sunday 17th March
The Grand Carnival Parade will start at the Ayios Nicolaos Round, around 1.00 pm and will end at the Simmilides Traffic Lights, running all along the Archbishop Makarios III Avenue.
The Parade will be preceded by the Serenaders, the Limassol Majorettes, the Batucinio percussion instruments and the Limassol Municipality Brass Band.
At 1.30 p.m. this year’s Queen of the Carnival, the Queen of crisis… and bliss, her entourage, floats, individuals and groups will enter the parade and walk all along the avenue.
During the parade, former carnivalists will be honoured by the Limassol Municipality for their precious contribution to the Limassol Carnival.
8.00 p.m. Parade by the Limassol Majorettes and the Batucinio percussion instruments group. From Ayios Nikolaos round-about up to the Enaerios parking place
8.30 p.m. Farewell Carnival Fiesta at the Enaerios Parking Place
The 2013 Carnival will end, with a massive Carnival Ball at the Enaerios parking place. Free style Carnival Costume Competition with awards to the best three costumes.
