Last Friday 23rd was the last for this year’s ‘’Kalos Orisate’ function, organized for the second year, a welcome ceremony to Cruise Ships Passengers calling
at Limassol Port.
The 10 welcome functions that took place between October and November 2012 were organized in the area around the Limassol Medieval Castle. The visitors, who
were warmly welcomed, were able to taste traditional Cyprus culinary products such as zivania, wine, grape produce, and dry nuts. A thematic exhibition of
photographs depicting the actual production method of the vine products were presented by the department of viticulture and oenology, a department of the
Ministry of Agriculture
Many visitors were photographed wearing traditional Cyprus Costumes, while joining in the folk dancing and on some occasions were welcomed by school children
attending the function.
Among the super Cruise Liners that called at Limassol port this year , were the Norwegian Jade and Queen Elisabeth II , both with a capacity over 3000
passengers and app. 295m length, the Costa Atlantica, Mein Schiff II, Aida Diva and Marina all cruising the East Mediterranean.
The initiators of this event, were the Limassol Municipality, The Limassol Tourism Board Company, the Cyprus Tourism organization, the greater Limassol’s municipalities the
Ports Authorities, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Cyprus Shipping Council and the Cyprus Shipping Association. The aim of all parties involved,
was to impress all short stay visitors with a taste of Culture, Product and specially a warm welcome in order for them to come back in Cyprus on a holiday.
